Genocidal rhetoric against trans people is growing. Open calls for violence are spreading online, and across the country, state legislatures and governors are attacking trans people’s right to exist.

Already, this world is often inhospitable for trans people.

As an example: Transphobes falsely blamed trans people for the Uvalde shooting, which led to an assault on a transgender highschooler in Texas, whose parents had kicked her out of her house.

Trans youth attempt suicide at far higher rates than other young people. Many studies have shown how gender-affirming care prevents suicides, and all major medical organizations recognize this healthcare as medically necessary.

However, state-level decision-makers are trying to ban access to this healthcare, along with other assaults on trans people’s rights and freedoms.

We need federal protections, but we also need action at all levels.
