Case Study & Dialogue III: Central Virginia Agrarian Commons

In this case study, we will hear how Callie Walker’s family farm became part of a regional effort to support Black food sovereignty. The Central Virginia Agrarian Commons is a network of BIPOC farmers and commonly-held lands in the Richmond, VA area. Through a hybrid process of a title donation and a life estate, Callie Walker is giving 100 acres of farmland to the CVAC. We will hear from CVAC leader Duron Chavis, as well as from Callie about how she decided to trade her wealth for “the best neighbors in the world.”
