Collective bargaining means more rights and more power to shape your lives. Collectively you have more power to negotiate than you have as individuals. No one will pay any dues or fees until employees have democratically approved a contract.
Without a union:
- The company unilaterally determines your working conditions and can change them at any time without your consent.
With a union:
- You and your coworkers elect a bargaining committee that gathers input from employees across the company.
- That bargaining committee negotiates a contract on equal footing with the company.
- That contract can only be approved democratically, through an employee vote.
- That contract determines your terms and conditions of employment and is binding and enforceable.
