Unafraid Ally - Join Unafraid Educators Across the Nation During National Educators Coming Out Day!

Join educators across the nation in an effort to increase the visibility of their support and work alongside undocumented students by participating in National Educators Coming Out Day!

When: Annually on November 12th

Who:

  • Educators: High school & college teachers, professors, counselors, college coaches, admissions and financial aid officers, (folks that work within an institution of education)
  • Students: Undocumented students who are in highschool, in a technical program, getting their GED, in community college or four year institutions (students engaged with educational system)
  • Allies: People who who are not undocumented and believe that educators and institutions must take action alongside undocumented students.

What the purpose of the day is:

  • To encourage educators to publicly come out and be proud about supporting and working alongside undocumented students.
  • Encourage students to reach out to their educators to come out publicly and to move beyond support into action.
  • Create a national support network of educators. Shift the narrative to one that highlights that educators have a responsibility to provide resources to all of their students.
  • Encourage conversation around how support looks like for undocumented students in schools and to engage in conversations on how to increase the resources and access for undocumented immigrant students in education.
