Given the recent tragedy in Charlottesville, we commit to being the support and advocates our students need in the face of hate.

We, as educators, know our nation's history. We watched horrified as discriminatory symbols and rhetoric of the past were used violently against the community in Charlottesville, VA.  We stand with the Charlottesville community in condemning the violence of white nationalism and recognize that such dangerous ideology must be confronted.

Together we must foster safe spaces to move towards justice in education.

Many of our students are scared, anxious, and feeling threatened. We commit to responding to incidents of hateful words, actions, and images and make sure my students feel welcome, supported, and valued. We will stand up for our students in the face of hate.
