Meta announced that it’s rolling out Instagram Map, where users can see the last location of mutual followers using the app.

It may seem like a neat way to connect with friends. But let’s look closer. Why would Meta add this feature? To create more ways to keep you on their app longer. It’s about engagement. It’s about data collection. The more users that turn on location services, the more location data that can be used to target users with more ads, which means more money in Meta’s pockets.
