Volunteer with Climate Action California!

We'd love to have you join our work!

Our efforts on behalf of strong climate legislation and policy will only succeed if climate-focused representatives are elected in sufficient numbers to pass big bills, and if the right people are appointed to the governing boards of regulatory agencies. And it all comes down to elections. In 2024, Climate Action California, a 501(c)(4), is endorsing climate champion candidates for the state legislature, as well as candidates for California Congressional seats that could flip the House to Democratic control—a major move for climate justice as well as national action to reduce emissions. We need volunteers from around the state to help win these races!

As for climate legislation and policy —as a statewide, volunteer-based climate advocacy group, we have plenty to do! We add efficiency by organizing in topic-specific campaign teams, who watch and advocate for strong climate legislation and policy in specific areas.

And in addition to people interested in legislation and policy, we need volunteers who can help with admin tasks, keep the website current, help with our newsletter, or join our social media team.

Our campaign teams keep in touch via Google groups and meet, remotely, on their own schedules. Climate Action California meets all together on Zoom twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6 pm. When you sign up for meeting notices and alerts on this form, we'll keep you posted!

Check the boxes on the form to let us know what appeals to you, and we'll be in touch!

  • Building decarbonization: Advocate for local, state, and federal policies moving us toward eliminating natural gas (methane) and building electrification

  • Climate finance: Address banks, insurers, pension funds, and the Securities and Exchange Commission—all key to loosening fossil fuel’s death grip on the economy and the planet

  • Energy policy: A broad category that includes utility pricing; regulation of new, existing, and abandoned oil and gas wells; and appropriately green creation and uses of hydrogen
  • Federal legislation and policy: Focus on Washington. 2023 is the year to reauthorize the Farm Bill, which is all about climate! We organize with 350 Seattle, 350 Bay Area Action, and the Climate Reality Project.

  • Methane from agriculture: Animal agriculture, especially dairies, is a huge source of methane in California. Plenty to do here, to reduce emissions from both manure and cow burps
  • Methane from landfills / waste food diversion: Reduce methane leaks from landfill operations. Divert wasted food to people who need it, and convert green waste to compost mulch, and other beneficial uses
  • Natural resources; 30 x 30: Advocate for nature-based solutions to climate harms and environmental justice issues, and support 30 x 30 goals (conservation of 30 percent of land and water by 2030)
  • Offshore wind: Advocate on all aspects of offshore wind with the goal of permitting as quickly as possible while ensuring that environmental and environmental justice concerns are fully addressed. Led by 350 Humboldt
  • Plastics/Toxics: Work on local action and legislation, to promote producer responsibility policy, reduce single-use plastics, promote reuse, and advocate for an end to PFAS and other harmful chemicals in the plastics we all use. Educate about oil companies' investments in plastics
  • Refrigerants: Reduce these potent greenhouse gases by replacing commercial refrigeration equipment in supermarkets and convenience stores with equipment that uses “natural” refrigerants
  • Transportation: Work with coalitions and other groups to build support for public transit and reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT), and accelerate the move to zero-emissions vehicles from cars
    to heavy-duty trucks
