Vote Heart, Vote Smart in Chesham & Amersham
Please use the form on this page to register – in confidence – two votes. First, who in an ideal world you would vote for in Chesham and Amersham (your Heart Vote), and second, who you will lend your vote to in order to defeat the Conservatives (your Smart Vote).
Tactical voting
At the last three general elections the progressive vote in Chesham and Amersham has been split. As a result, the Conservatives have been gifted a safe seat.
That changed in 2021 with a grassroots rebellion against the Tory government, when both Labour and Green supporters lent their votes to Sarah Green and helped to make her historic victory possible.
In July’s general election, opposition supporters will need to lend our votes again, to ensure a change of Government at Westminster.
We know how hard it is to put your 'X' in the box next to a candidate who isn't your first choice, but to defeat the Conservatives, many of us will have to do just that until we can change the First Past the Post voting system.
Our out-dated voting system
We all deserve a voting system which ensures that every vote is genuinely earned, genuinely cast, and actually counts. Instead, our current voting system effectively ignores millions of voters. Recently, this has repeatedly gifted the Conservatives 100% of the power on a minority of the vote.
Compass Buckinghamshire supports the best-placed progressive candidate who backs democratic reform. In Chesham and Amersham, that is Sarah Green of the Lib Dems.
In return for so many constituents lending their votes, we're asking Sarah Green to commit to PR so in future we can have a fairer voting system.
Vote Heart Vote Smart will show us – and the politicians – how many people are lending their vote at this general election and to which party. We want the true pattern of people’s voting preferences to be revealed, so that voters can never again be taken for granted.
Let’s start building the evidence, not only on how people vote, but also on their true preferences so we can show the real colours of the progressive majority.
Vote Heart – how you would vote under a fair voting system. Your vote would reflect your beliefs and values.
Vote Smart – how you plan to vote, tactically, to keep the Conservative candidate from winning the seat. A tactical vote is when you vote for the progressive candidate most likely to be able to win the seat, even if in an ideal world they might not be your first choice.
