Last November, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to subpoena Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo to require them to testify under oath about their decades-long efforts to influence Supreme Court Justices. Harlan Crow is Clarence Thomas’ now infamous billionaire benefactor and Leonard Leo is the leader of the Federalist Society and the de-facto architect of the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority.  

But Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has yet to issue the subpoenas.

It’s possible that Senator Durbin hasn’t subpoenaed Crow and Leo yet because pundits and the broader public may (wrongly) assume that a mere authorization to issue the subpoenas means that the subpoenas are somehow automatically already issued. But we’re smarter than that.

The American people deserve a Senate Judiciary Committee Chair who will expose these right-wing operators for their work to destabilize Democracy. It’s imperative that Senator Durbin issue subpoenas to get to the bottom of whether or not Supreme Court Justices are selling out our democracy to Harlan Crow, Leonard Leo, or other wealthy benefactors and judicial activists. Our Democracy depends on it.
