We will not allow evictions in Minneapolis! We will not allow our neighbors to be evicted!

I pledge to defend my home and protect my neighbor’s homes from evictions if the state-wide eviction moratorium is lifted. A future without police violence is a future without evictions.

Our homes are sanctuaries for our health and safety and our community’s safety. We all deserve access to dignified and safe homes. When our systems fail us to protect our homes and communities, we must take action to defend our homes and community.

In March, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz passed a moratorium on all evictions in response to the COVID-19 health crisis, which requires everyone to be able to shelter in place for our community’s safety. This was a good first step to protect our communities, but we can’t let it end. Due to the unprecedented, massive financial crisis and job loss sparked by COVID-19, thousands across the state have been unable to make their rent or mortgage payments. Because Governor Walz and the State Legislature have refused to cancel rent and mortgage payments, now thousands of Minnesotans will face eviction and foreclosure when the moratorium is lifted.

While we continue to mourn and rage the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police, we join the call to defund MPD and build a world without police. Just like the police system, the housing system is also violently and profoundly anti-Black and Minnesota has some of the worst racial disparities in the country. As we stand against the anti-Black violence of policing, we know that that includes standing against the anti-Black violence of evictions and displacement.. A world without police will be a world where we protect each other and take care of each other in community. A world without police is a world without evictions.

Now is the time to take action and pledge that when our city and homes across the state will come under the attack of evictions after the moratorium is lifted we will fight to defend our homes and fight to protect our neighborhoods. We will not allow this moment of health and financial crisis to be met with massive evictions.

We will protect and care for each other. We will fight against evictions in every way possible!
