On Monday, July 01 2019, protesters marched to DeKalb County Jail near Atlanta, in solidarity with prisoners who have been protesting inhumane conditions there. In the run-up to the protest, DeKalb Sheriff Mann made every effort to suppress dissent both inside and outside the Jail.
Police have attacked the protesters at the jail and arrested at least 8 previous protesters. This time was no different with another protester being attacked and arrested by the police.
This fundraiser is for bail expenses for the arrested. Any surplus funds will go toward their legal defense, and to bail for arrestees at future protests.
UPDATE: We got the protester free, they are out of jail! Thanks for the fast response and strong show of solidarity. Any remaining contributions will help them fight their charges in court.
UPDATE: ASF is not a charitable bail fund. Due to Ga. Code § 17-6-15 donations to ASF can no longer legally be used to pay for the release of accused persons. Assistance with bonding company fees is provided through another non-profit based on a one-time grant ASF made in June 2024, prior to the new change in law.
Further donations will go toward ongoing support for those facing repression.
