Fred Barkey Education Fund
We believe the powerful stories of everyday people fighting for justice belong in every classroom. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Fred Barkey Education Fund, a permanent resource supporting the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum’s educational initiatives in partnership with the West Virginia Labor History Association, which was co-founded by Dr. Barkey.
Named in honor of Dr. Barkey’s remarkable legacy, this fund will:
Provide Teaching Trunks: Free educational resources for teachers, highlighting stories of class solidarity.
Support Educators: Compensate teachers on our Education Advisory Panel.
Host Camp Solidarity: Our bi-annual labor conference promoting the modern labor movement.
Build Classroom Libraries: Supply books and guides on labor history.
Develop Curriculum: Create union history lessons to reclaim our narratives.
Engage Communities: Bring the story of the Mine Wars to local classrooms and libraries.
Your donation supports these vital programs and honors Dr. Barkey’s legacy. Every contribution makes a difference! Choose your amount or make your own to help us empower learners and preserve our shared history. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us keep people’s history alive!
