What does a better future look like? ✨
In East Phillips, we're building a future where resources are readily shared and neighbors' needs are met, now and for generations to come.
After stopping the demolition of the contested Roof Depot warehouse, EPNI leapt into converting a long held community vision into a plan - to turn the vacant warehouse into a community-owned indoor urban farm and vibrant hub, full of local businesses and communal spaces.
Your support today fuels exciting work ahead this fall to develop climate resilient, community-led infrastructure, including:
- Engaging neighbors to design an ecologically-beneficial rainwater collection system that recycles water from the sky to use inside the Roof Depot building
- Continuing outreach and education while planning the nation’s largest epicentral rooftop solar array, in partnership with Cooperative Energy Futures
- Refining a novel community ownership model that was drafted this year by esteemed volunteer attorneys and community leaders.
Every day, we make progress on this transformative project, and each step forward is dependent on widespread grassroots support!
From studying soil health at community workshops to drafting a novel ownership model, we've already made big strides together this year. Just last month, we successfully pivoted and won an extension of the site purchase agreement deadline after the State Legislature unexpectedly lost essential funding set aside for site acquisition.
This project continues despite hurdles because a whole lot of people believe in a future that delivers overdue justice and abundance to the heart of Minneapolis - a future that looks like year-round produce grown in a food-scarce neighborhood, 500+ good jobs, and shared spaces for art-making, education, and connection.
A better future only becomes possible when we all build it together, so please chip in with a tax-deductible contribution today!
