Since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, Mutual Aid Disaster Relief has been supporting mutual aid efforts in Puerto Rico with solar infrastructure. We have already partnered with 5 different Centros de Apoyo Mutuo and installed solar infrastructure at their centers. Since 2017, with earthquakes and storms regularly knocking out power across the island, the Centros de Apoyo Mutuo have been able to continue providing services to the community, and utilizing solar energy to store medicine, power medical equipment, charge phones, and keep people connected. This has deepened our belief in the importance of building long-term resilience and self-governance on the island.
The Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign is a call to stand in solidarity with people in Puerto Rico, through sustainable infrastructure.
Puerto Rico is recovering from multiple disasters: Hurricanes Irma, Maria, a devastating 6.4 magnitude earthquake, coronavirus, Hurricane Fiona, and, of course, the legacy of colonialism. However, the mutual aid centers where we installed stand alone solar infrastructure still have electricity, and are acting as a beacon and refuge for impacted communities. Please consider donating to help us continue this important work.
SOLIDARITY STEPS IN ACTION
Raise funds for equipment and tools needed to set up modular water treatment and solar energy systems, providing immediate relief and long-term resilience.
Response teams travel to impacted communities and install solar and other infrastructure at mutual aid centers throughout the island.
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief continues decentralized response efforts over the long-term, raising funds to continue to construct and install permanent, community maintained water catchment and filtration systems as well as sustainable energy systems.
Whatever donated money we receive with this fundraiser, all of it will go towards installing water treatment systems and solar arrays.
Each individual donation helps us get closer to providing sustainable water and energy access to the people of Puerto Rico for immediate and long-term disaster recovery and community autonomy.
With your help, we will continue building power while the lights are out and growing sustainable infrastructure for mutual aid in Puerto Rico. Please support the Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign efforts by donating generously and sharing among your networks.
