Since Hurricane Maria, we’ve been supporting mutual aid efforts in Puerto Rico with solar infrastructure. With the most recent earthquake again knocking out power across the island, we know this work is critical to helping build long-term resilience and self-governance.
The Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign is a call to stand in solidarity with people in Puerto Rico who are continuing mutual aid initiatives. Sustainable infrastructure is a big part of what makes this possible.
Currently, Puerto Rico, still recovering from Hurricane Maria, has been hit by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake and again power went down throughout the island. However, the mutual aid centers where we installed stand alone solar infrastructure still have electricity, and are acting as a beacon and refuge for impacted communities. Please consider donating to help us continue this important work.
SOLIDARITY STEPS IN ACTION
Raise funds for equipment and tools needed to set up modular water treatment and solar energy systems, providing immediate relief and long-term resilience.
Response teams travel to impacted communities and install solar and other infrastructure at mutual aid centers throughout the island.
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief continues decentralized response efforts over the long-term, raising funds to continue to construct and install permanent, community maintained water catchment and filtration systems as well as sustainable energy systems.
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief is currently raising money to purchase the necessary supplies, materials, and tools to continue installing modular water treatment systems and solar arrays to provide needed and life-saving clean water and electricity to impacted communities. Whatever donated money we receive with this fundraiser, all of it will go towards installing water treatment systems and solar arrays.
Each individual donation helps us get closer to providing sustainable water and energy access to residents in Puerto Rico for immediate and long-term disaster relief and community autonomy.
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief believes in creative grassroots organizing and action that prioritizes and highlights the voices and power of marginalized individuals and communities and furthers their capacity to take action on their own behalf. We engage in a horizontal, multidimensional and multidirectional process that contributes to the liberation of everyone involved, not charitable acts.
We seek as much as possible to break down the barriers between givers and receivers of aid. This means we share resources, skills, experience, knowledge and ideas without perpetuating relationships based on hierarchical power.
The Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign provides mutual aid centers with sustainable infrastructure, tools, equipment, and training where necessary to increase their capacity to directly respond to self-determined needs of those impacted.
With your help, we will continue building power while the lights are out and growing sustainable infrastructure for mutual aid in Puerto Rico. Please support the Mutual Aid Disaster Relief Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign efforts by donating generously and sharing among your networks.
