On Wednesday, May 15 2019, protesters marched to DeKalb County Jail in metro Atlanta, in solidarity with prisoners who have been protesting inhumane conditions there. In the run-up to the protest, DeKalb Sheriff Mann made every effort to suppress dissent both inside and outside the Jail.
Police have attacked the protesters at the jail and arrested at least three activists.
This fundraiser is for bail expenses for those arrested. Any surplus funds will go toward their legal defense, and to bail for arrestees at future protests.
**UPDATE 5/17/2019**
All four arrestees are free! The support from contributors to the Solidarity Fund means a lot to them, and will help them defend against these ridiculous charges. Solidarity makes us all stronger!
**UPDATE 5/16/2019**
Our jail support volunteers report that three of the four arrestees will get a signature bond, which is great news! They still haven't been released though. Contributions will go toward helping these protesters beat their charges in court.
UPDATE: ASF is not a charitable bail fund. Due to Ga. Code § 17-6-15 donations to ASF can no longer legally be used to pay for the release of accused persons. Assistance with bonding company fees is provided through another non-profit based on a one-time grant ASF made in June 2024, prior to the new change in law.
Further donations will go toward ongoing support for those facing repression.
