Haroun Wakil is well known and respected by many for his dedication to the community. He is the main organizer of the Street Groomers, a group which organizes street tribes to protect the community and stand up against police violence and oppression.
At a protest earlier this year, Haroun was accused of damaging the car of a civilian who ran over a protester. The city is threatening to charge him with a felony if he does not pay $2083 in restitution.
While we maintain that Haroun did nothing wrong, we do not want to see him caught up in the criminal injustice system either. If you can help us raise this restitution money, then Haroun can stay free to continue organizing in the community.
All funds contributed will go towards supporting Haroun's expenses.
Any funds remaining will go toward our ongoing anti-repression work for future protesters.
UPDATE: ASF is not a charitable bail fund. Due to Ga. Code § 17-6-15 donations to ASF can no longer legally be used to pay for the release of accused persons. Assistance with bonding company fees is provided through another non-profit based on a one-time grant ASF made in June 2024, prior to the new change in law.
Further donations will go toward ongoing support for those facing repression.
