SWFL Showing Up for Racial Justice is collecting seed money for a long-term community bail fund. Immediate needs include bailing out protesters arrested in demonstrations against police brutality. The pandemic has created urgency to decarcerate our community as it is impossible to practice health and safety measures while incarcerated. Long term, this bail fund will become an integral part of a campaign to end the inherently racist and classist cash bail system that has repeatedly been proven unnecessary and a driver of poverty. This community bail fund will become operational as soon as possible. Please give generously.
"Being incarcerated is always a grave threat to one’s health, whether we’re in the midst of a global pandemic or not. If someone can be released from jail or prison now, it shows that they never should have been there in the first place. We reject punishment for punishment’s sake." - Community Justice Exchange
