“The Vinguard’s mission is to promote a culture in the wine industry centered around ecological farming, belonging, empowerment, and equity, and to amplify the voices and work of historically excluded groups who work with wine.”
The Vinguard became a non-profit organization in 2020, when COVID was killing tens of thousands of people across the country, and the police murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor spurred protests against anti-Black racism in our streets. Much has changed since then, including a backlash against increasing rights and amplifying Black, Indigenous, Brown, and Asian American Pacific Islander voices, LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants, and other at-risk members of society. As an organization, we’ve tried to use our platform to counter the hate and press for representation of BIPOC, women, queer winemakers, and the immigrants who are the backbone of the wine industry.
We will continue to forge ahead and then some. In light of resistance to our shared values, we invite you to dig in with us, follow along, and join the community.
