It's been a challenging year for "Peace on Earth," especially in terms of racial understanding in America. The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy invites you to support our ongoing work with a year-end gift in honor or memory of someone who is making a difference in the world.
"In this current toxic, negative atmosphere," says Interim Director the Rev. Charles Swadley, "the Center wants to fill the vacuum with a positive message. We want to create a more compassionate Commonwealth with a better connected faith community."
In the News: Rev. Swadley was invited Friday to meet with U.S. Senator Mark Warner and other religious leaders to affirm our solidarity through our multi faith traditions for the right for all persons regardless of religious background to embrace this fundamental concept of our great land, Freedom of Religion. At a press conference in front of the First Freedom Center in Richmond, which enshrines our nation's most cherished principles, Swadley talks about the importance that "religion should not be a wall that separates people from this great land." VICPP also has a newly redesigned, much more dynamic website. Visit www.virginiainterfaithcenter.org and check out items and photos from the Center's Annual Meeting, held on Dec. 8 with more than 120 people in attendance. ... the next major event for the Interfaith Center will be "A Day for All People" on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the new Living and Learning Center on the campus of Virginia Union University in Richmond and also at the General Assembly. The ongoing problem of racism in Virginia will be the focus of this gathering. ... A followup will be held this week on the Center-sponsored meeting on Childhood Hunger. We were pleased to see the Governor has including funding for universal breakfasts for children in elementary schools in his latest budget proposal. Please let your delegate and senator know you support the fight to stamp out childhood hunger.
