I have spent my entire career in public service - as an educator, a public defender, and a government staffer. And in serving the community I’ve seen one common thread:

Whether our institutions work - our courtrooms, our classrooms, our hospitals - has nothing to do with ability, fairness, or justice, and everything to do with the amount of money in your pocket, the friends you have, and the color of your skin. Yet in the face of this inequity, and in the face of hate, our multiracial, collaborative community rises up again and again.
