Our mission is to preserve the sacred space of a cemetery where 1st generation freed Africans and their descendants are interred in Bethesda, MD. This cemetery was desecrated and paved over in the 1950s-60s, and now the developer Equity One wants to build a parking garage on top of it. We are working to memorialize this sacred space, honor the dead, and celebrate the vibrant African American community that once lived here.
