Mayor Emanuel's proposed tax increases unfairly and unnecessarily punish average Chicagoans while shielding the wealthy from the burden of balancing the city's budget. These taxes will fall heaviest on the most vulnerable in our neighborhoods, force many to move out of the city, and decrease the already low supply of affordable housing. 

We call on Mayor Emanuel to withdraw his proposed budget, rather than offering small changes, and we call on all aldermen to vocally oppose this budget. We encourage all to pursue alternative proposals, like an Alternative Minimum Tax on Loop buildings, that ensure the wealthy pay their fair share.
