Climate Jobs Massachusetts, Climate Jobs Rhode Island, & Connecticut Roundtable on Climate & Jobs
Last October, the governors of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island announced that together, they will pursue a joint plan to establish offshore wind in their states. Offshore wind energy is critical for reaching our state and federal climate goals. The climate crisis is hitting workers first and worst, especially working people of color, through extreme and dangerous weather throughout the country. That’s why labor is leading on building offshore wind power and a clean energy economy that works for everyone.
Working people in New England have the opportunity to advocate for what this emerging industry will mean for our communities. Together we’re asking the governments and corporations developing offshore wind for our region to commit to:
Creating high-quality union jobs, for both temporary construction jobs and permanent operations and maintenance jobs
Strengthening this growing industry with strong labor standards that will guarantee high wages and good benefits, like retirement, healthcare, and worksite safety protections
Ensuring transparency and accountability to the public
Investing in workforce development for frontline communities, like apprenticeship programs, to provide pathways to lifelong, union careers
Your voice matters! If you live in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island, sign our petition to say yes to an offshore wind industry that works for working people through local, family-sustaining jobs. With offshore wind, we can sustain our communities and our climate for generations to come!
