The Chicago, IL Chapter was one of the first chapters in the country established in October 2017. The chapter is a diverse mix of trained Climate Reality Leaders and climate-concerned public members ready to get into action. Since the beginning, the chapter has plugged into local coalitions, including the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, where they work on regional issues and state policy. The chapter was part of a small team that wrote and secured Chicago’s commitment to 100 percent clean energy in buildings by 2035. On the state level, the chapter’s current campaign focus seeks Illinois’ commitment to 100 percent clean energy by 2050 via the Clean Energy Jobs Act, a bill introduced in Springfield in 2019. Of course, the chapter is a resource for regional presenters providing monthly calls, local resources, and support for successful outreach on the climate crisis.
