We Are in Climate Breakdown
Today, news arrived from the UN Environment assembly in Nairobi that is our final wake up call. Temperature rises in the Arctic of 3C to 5C are inevitable even if the world is successful in cutting greenhouse gases. Tipping points like the permafrost melt, will make staying within the Paris Accord impossible unless there is a radical and immediate move to reduce carbon emissions to net zero. If not, and it may already be too late, by century end Arctic warming will rise to more than 5 C which simply means life support systems collapse. This collapse is actually already happening.

The reality of our situation is made clear by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report published October 2018 by 91 scientists from 40 countries who received over 6000 references and 42,000 expert and peer reviewed publications. The report states: “Unprecedented changes are required if we are to avoid climate breakdown.” By 2030 a cascade of severe tipping points will begin to radically shift the world as we know it, meaning we could have an unrecognizable planet as early as 2040.

It is Time to Declare Climate Emergency
Nearly 400 councils covering 34 millions citizens in the UK, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, and the US, including cities like London, Los Angeles, Bristol, Oxford, Oakland, and Berkeley have already declared.

The Revolution is Here, Led by Children, Sunrise, Rebels.
We are living in a moment of grass roots revolution led by youth and children on the streets alongside movements like Extinction Rebellion (XR), Sunrise Movement, Climate Mobilization, and so many more. It is time to join this revolution at every level of our being.

Declare Climate Emergency Resource Document
The resource document Declare Climate Emergency Now is a guide. It is informed by Dharma practice, and covers why and how to declare, spiritual and psychological processes, and links to an array of information. You can also access it on Sacred Mountain Sangha site. Please feel free to share this doc far and wide. It is inspired by Extinction Rebellion, it does not belong to anyone, it can be adapted accordingly.

May 18th, Save the Date and Create an Event
On May 18th, in San Francisco, we will host a Declare Climate Emergency Now gathering. It will be grounded in Dharma, open to all, with input and sharing. We will declare together, focus on follow up actions, initiate ourselves into this new reality through sacred ceremony, and celebrate mother nature and grandmother Earth.

If you can't join us, then why not coordinate a DCEN gathering, using this doc, with friends, local community, sangha. Join us from wherever you are. Let us know about your event if so we can promote it, share it, and align with you in solidarity.
