Environmental Justice Bloc (EJB) is an anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, de-colonial, intersectional left bloc within the Extinction Rebellion Movement of Movements.

At the XR October International Rebellion, we will form an environmental justice coalition helping shut down central London, blocking London’s fossil-fuel business centres and corrupt corporations, obstructing capital flow and profits whilst articulating narratives around class, anti-racist and de-colonial solidarity.

We will create a space to envisage alternative demands rooted in justice and anti-capitalism. We will join the chorus of many thousands more disrupting London and demanding action on environmental justice.

The EJB serves the interests of communities of resistance of the Global South and their allied progressive forces. The EJB will serve internationalist solidarity for global justice and the Earth’s resistance in this time of climate and ecological emergency.

We are a collective of groups and individuals committed to resisting the global injustices fuelling the climate emergency. We hope to achieve this whilst remaining accountable to communities on the frontline of climate colonialism, and all those who don’t have access to the centres of power.

The bloc is independent from XR. We want to find common ground, but this is about us working together, not being co-opted into a campaign led by a single group or framed by a single perspective. We do not exist to take instructions from Extinction Rebellion. We want to realise how we can operate independently from XR, whilst finding our common ground.

We want environmental justice campaigners and organisations to learn from each other’s campaign and movement building strategies to maximise joint working as well as recognising the power of a plurality of approaches in achieving climate justice.

We will leverage the environmental justice presence to:

- Ensure that XR UK includes discussion of our demands and principles in their central messaging.

- Ensure the political team of XR UK are mandated to negotiate according to our demands.

- Work with other working groups and teams within XR UK to ensure they are taking the issue of environmental justice seriously.
