For too long our elected officials in Georgia have engaged in the act of choosing their voters instead of voters choosing their elected officials. Through the process of gerrymandering, both parties have worked to keep their majorities by creating legislative boundaries, which follow very vague and limited guidelines and are drawn in the shadows and as a part of “gentlemen’s agreements.”

With this historic gubernatorial race, we the voters have an opportunity to demand from the next governor a pledge to lead a process for a constitutional amendment that creates an independent commission with enforceable guidelines, that is transparent and non-partisan, to create new voting districts for Georgia in 2021. If the state legislature refuses to pass new legislation and/or a constitutional amendment, we demand that the incoming governor pledge to veto any new voting districts created by the legislature in 2021.
