The Greensboro Justice Coalition (GJC) grew out of a struggle against a pattern and practice of police abuse of power to promote greater police accountability. Our initial focus was on the homicide of Marcus Deon Smith, a homeless man who was hogtied and suffocated while in police custody. The coalition however is committed to working broadly for social, racial, and economic justice in the Greensboro Guilford County area.
