Mainers for Accountable Leadership (MFAL) is a group of Mainers who have come together to organize direct action in response to the hate- and bigotry-inspired policies likely to be seen throughout a Trump presidency. As Mainers, we are in the unique position of being represented by a relatively moderate Republican senator (Collins) who opposed Trump. A key aim of this group will be to pressure her to stand up to Trump, oppose his nominees for cabinet positions, oppose extreme conservative supreme court nominees, and oppose legislation and policy that would be harmful to Americans, especially those targeted by his campaign (immigrants, Muslims, gays, women, disabled, transgender, veterans - am I leaving anyone out?). Senator King and Rep. Pingree are both taking positive stances on some key issues, but we will have to monitor them and apply soft pressure, and offer public support for their stances if they are targeted by Trump supporters. Rep. Poliquin will need to hear regularly from progressives in CD2. Our first action is to meet with staffers in each of our senate offices. A strategy team will develop a full action plan that will include a range of tactics designed to apply the pressure of our voices unified together! Feel free to plug into actions when and where you can, to propose actions, etc. Some members of this group will also be establishing a Political Action Committee (PAC) in order to raise funds to buy such things as open letters to our electeds to be published in print newspapers across the state and some social media ads.
