The conflict between the millions of Americans who earn income from their labor and the handful of capitalists who profit from the excess wealth generated by the labor of others is the defining fight for Democratic Socialists. In the past decades, capitalists have waged an all-out assault on working people and the benefits won by their unions during the New Deal in an attempt to squeeze ever more profit out of laboring Americans. This trend coincided with a mass depoliticization of workers, mainly due to the corporate capture of both major political parties, as they no longer saw a connection between political outcomes and their standard of living. However, a new wave of working-class consciousness is sweeping through the nation as Americans are rediscovering the power of their labor and how only through collective organizing can they exert this strength.

The Labor Working Group (LWG) is a socialist-aligned organizing hub for workers across the metro DC region who want to fight bosses, build new unions, strengthen existing unions, and turnout for worker solidarity actions. The LWG seeks to connect socialists to the broader labor struggle and connect workers to an energetic socialist political movement. We developed organizing resources to tackle the challenges faced by socialists in their workplaces and provided logistical support for chapter members in their quest to exert labor power in their places of work.
