Movement Moms

The Movement Moms group was formed to support the young people involved on the front lines of the movement who are using non-violent direct action and civil disobedience to challenge the new regime and support human rights, ecological integrity, social and economic justice, democracy, and peace.

We need wisdom and prayers to guide the young people who are putting their lives, bodies, and futures on the line. Movement Moms will provide housing and other support, help resolve conflicts, counteract provocateurs who would undermine their work, assist with fundraising and media, and pray for their success.

We need new practices at all levels of society to address climate change, income inequality, mass incarceration, and growing militarism, racism, and violence. Movement Moms will foster these new practices, culture, and institutions by supporting the front lines of civil disobedience, engaging in prayer, and working to make people aware of the efforts underway.

The first meeting of Movement Moms will coincide with the Women’s March on Washington January 21st, we anticipate holding the meeting somewhere in the Washington area on the 22nd. In general we will practice low-impact meetings online and on the phone when possible so we do not add to the problems we are trying to solve. We want participation to be affordable for women from all walks of life.

The criteria for Movement Moms we have established so far is quite simple – we want cultural, racial, and geographic diversity, we want women with experience with the issues, and we want loving, supportive women who enjoy helping young people reach their dreams and make a better future.
