The Prince George's County Maryland Branch NAACP, was founded in 1935 with Hester V. King as its President. Mrs. King served as the branch President for nearly 30 years. She worked to desegregate the courthouse in Upper Marlboro, public accommodations to include the schools in the county. Mrs. King helped conduct a statewide drive in Annapolis for passage of an equal accommodations bill by the State Legislature.
