Nuclear Free WA
Nuclear Free WA is a not for profit environment organisation working with First Nations communities, health, union, faith and other environmental organisations. We advocate for the protection of our environment, communities and workers from the threat of the nuclear industry in Western Australia. Having fought off uranium mines, nuclear waste facilities and nuclear power we are bracing for renewed pro nuclear lobbying and the threat of nuclear submarines.

In WA there is the ongoing push to establish uranium mines and increasing pressure to host a nuclear waste dump and to lift prohibitions on nuclear power. In 2024 Peter Dutton announced plans to establish nuclear reactors in Collie, WA if elected - a proposal that would lock us in to burning fossil fuels for longer. There are plans for US nuclear submarines to be posted off the West Australian coast from 2027, for low level nuclear waste to be stored at Meandip (Garden Island) and already an increasing presence of US and UK visiting subs. Australia is yet to fulfil the promise of signing the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear Free WA focuses on all these issues to advocate for a nuclear free future for Western Australia.
