The Participatory Politics Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to increase civic engagement. From 2007-2013, PPF's flagship project was the OpenCongress.org website, for government transparency; and in 2011-2013, OpenGovernment.org. In 2014, PPF launched AskThem.io, and in 2015 released NYC Councilmatic.

In 2018, the founding team behind OpenCongress launched Sludge, an indepedent newsroom focused on money in politics. PPF's founders are original members of the worker-owned cooperative behind Flaming Hydra. Tax-deductible donations to support Flaming Hydra will go directly to support its publishing.
