Participatory Politics Foundation

New York, NY

The Participatory Politics Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to increase civic engagement. From 2007-2013, PPF's flagship project was the OpenCongress.org website, for government transparency; and in 2011-2013, OpenGovernment.org. In 2014, PPF launched AskThem.io and in 2015 released NYC Councilmatic. In 2018, the founding team behind OpenCongress announced a new journalism project, Sludge, on money in politics.

AskThem is currently in volunteer redesign ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. AskThem is a version of “We The People” for every elected official: federal, state and city levels of government. Also, question and petition any verified Twitter account. It’s a not-for-profit tool for a stronger democracy, with open data for informed and engaged communities. We’re working with data for well over 100,000 elected officials nationwide – from local city council members all the way up to U.S. senators and more.
