Save Caswell Park

Knoxville, TN

Caswell Park is a 37-acre park near the heart of downtown Knoxville, but only about 5 acres are freely accessible to the public (the majority is parking lots, buildings, or pay-to-play ballfields). The City of Knoxville has proposed giving away a roughly 1 acre section of open lawn area in the park for private development of a high density residential apartment building (47 units of supportive housing). While the development is designed to help people in need, reducing park land and green space in an under-served, lower income urban neighborhood reflects poor public policy and lack of planning, especially when other city-owned land is available nearby. Parting with park land should always be a last resort. Please write to the Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission to express your opposition to this project no later than Wednesday, October 2 at 3:00 PM Eastern.
