UC GND Coalition
Mission Statement
The University of California Green New Deal is a democratically organized, grassroots coalition of UC organizations and individuals, including students, trainees, staff, unions, faculty, retirees, alumni, and local community members, that campaigns for concrete actions the University of California must take to help prevent the worst effects of the climate crisis. In solidarity with frontline communities bearing the brunt of climate change, we call on the UC to deploy its investment, procurement, educational, and labor power to help drive a just transition to a more equitable, accountable, and zero-carbon economy.
In accordance with what science supports and what justice demands, we call for:
Decarbonization of our campuses.
Divestment from oppressive systems and extractive industries.
A frank reckoning with UC’s colonial past and present, including consultation and collaboration with Native American nations over land use, educational access, cultural representation and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) compliance.
System-wide climate education and research that includes the social, geopolitical, and economic dimensions of the crisis, centered on the voices of the dispossessed
