WomenCount is a first-of-its kind crowdfunding platform supporting Democratic women candidates. The facts: Women make up 51 percent of voters, but only 19 percent of Congress. When women run for office, they're just as likely as a man to win—but they don't run, because of cultural and financial barriers.

One of those barriers is that women candidates raise a larger percentage of contributions from smaller dollar donations, which means they must spend more time securing individual contributions. But there's another wrinkle—women donors are less likely to see politics as a cause as worthy of their dollars as charitable or other giving.

We're hoping WomenCount can solve both problems. By being able to create teams and share those with their friends, we're hoping women find political fundraising to be more fun and impactful. And by packaging candidates together in slates, we're hoping they can harness collective fundraising power.
