Zero Waste Ithaca

Ithaca, NY

Our mission is to promote Zero Waste policies and culture, working toward prosperity without growth in Ithaca, New York and its surrounding communities.

By zero waste, we abide by the updated definition adopted by the Zero Waste International Alliance board on December 20, 2018: "Zero Waste: the conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning or discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health."

As Zero Waste practitioners, we advocate for both individual lifestyle changes and systemic shifts in the way things are produced and consumed. Decentralized, community-led zero waste practices offer a practical and impactful way to address the climate crisis.

Our long-term goal is to make Ithaca / Tompkins a Zero Waste community. See Zero Waste City Masterplan from GAIA (Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives)
