Act Now to Save Wisconsin's Family Medical Leave

Dear WFNHP Member,

The Wisconsin Legislature is on the verge of ending our state Family Medical Leave (FMLA) law. They say it is not needed because there is a federal law...THIS IS NOT TRUE.

We must act TODAY to save this vital benefit! Here's what you can do...

1. Send our sample letter to your legislators.

2. Call your legislators and tell them to stop any attempt to federalize FMLA protections for Wisconsin families. CLICK HERE for contact information.

3. Sign the petition to save Wisconsin's FMLA law.

If you work part-time you may lose FMLA coverage!

Hundreds of our members and thousands of workers in our state will have NO protected leave at all if this change is made. Under the federal law, you must work 1,250 hours a year to have protected leave. However, the vast majority of healthcare workers are part-time and also are sent home on low census, which reduces hours even more. Therefore, most healthcare workers will not have enough hours to qualify for federal FMLA. Under Wisconsin's state FMLA law, you only need to work 1,000 hours per year to qualify for protected leave.

Full or part-time workers will lose your right to use your sick bank to care for family members!

The second loss is that, with federal leave, you cannot use sick bank hours to care for critically ill family members; even if you work the qualifying hours. If you need to take time off to care for your sick parent or child, you must use your vacation, PTO or unpaid time.

The only way to stop the Republicans from taking away your rights is to act immediately by contacting your legislator today. If they hear from enough members in their district, they may have a heart and do the right thing--LEAVE WISCONSIN FMLA ALONE!

If you stay silent, you lose, and so does your family.
