Baltimore City: Invest in Water Infrastructure!

A state takeover of the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant after violations of the federal Clean Water Act. Thousands of sewage backups in homes across the city every year, disproportionately impacting Black neighborhoods. These are just some of the consequences of not properly investing in our water and wastewater infrastructure.

Baltimore must invest in its sewer pipes and treatment plants, but residents shouldn’t have to keep footing the bill through rate increases that disproportionately affect the most vulnerable households. The City has access to more resources than ever before as a result of the American Rescue Plan Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and other state and federal funding mechanisms.

Clean water is a human right. It’s up to the Baltimore City government to apply for and direct federal and state resources toward our water infrastructure to make sure Baltimoreans have access to the clean water we deserve.

Tell the City Council to prioritize investments in our water and wastewater infrastructure in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget!
