Tell the Board of Education Not to Eliminate Transparency in Land Use Decisions

URGENT: ACTION NEEDED!

The Montgomery County Board of Education is voting this Thursday 4/20 on a resolution that will hide controversial approvals like school cell towers and massive bus depots by delegating land use decision-making to a civil servant designated by the superintendent !

Unless we take action, on April 20, 2023 the Board will vote to delegate to the authority to make significant land use decisions. How could this happen? The resolution is on the BOE's Consent Agenda, so the matter has already been deemed to be one of a routine nature without the need for discussion.

If this resolution is approved, land use decisions, such as whether to install cell towers on MCPS property, will be made behind closed doors without public notice, public input, or a public vote of the Board of Education.

Many of you may remember that the Board tried to do the exact same thing back in August 2022. Thanks to your help, and hundreds of letters you sent, the Board canceled the idea back in August. Now they are reviving the exact same bad idea -- hoping you won't notice.

This action will remove the public scrutiny of the Board of Education having to vote on critical issues.
