Call on Democratic Party Leaders to Demand a New Presidential Nominee/Don't Rush the Nomination

President Joe Biden has achieved great things. His administration led us out of the pandemic and has been rebuilding our economy, standing up to corporate greed, taking urgent climate action, and reestablishing American leadership around the world.

All of that – and much, much more – will be lost if Donald Trump takes back the presidency. Democrats need the strongest possible ticket to maximize our chances of winning in November. It has become very clear, based on both long term polling and the recent debate, that Democrats’ current ticket is not the strongest one we can put forward.

We are calling on our representatives to publicly ask Joe to step aside and also to ask the Democratic Party in our state to not move forward with the rushed nomination vote. We should not be rushing a process that is already in question, and should instead have the nomination vote take place at the Chicago convention. Rushing the vote will not unite Democrats, it will make them even more skeptical. The current plan for a virtual roll call at the end of July is an affront to the party.

We have incredible talent in our party – including a vice president who made history once and could do it again, and governors who’ve proven their ability to win critical swing states. In 2020 Joe Biden committed to being a “transition” president. It is time for him to make good on that commitment, put his country first, and secure his legacy as the man who saved our democracy.

We simply cannot afford to lose this election. That is why we are pledging to do everything in our power to defeat Trump. President Biden must do the same. That means stepping down as nominee and passing the torch to a new generation of leaders. Trust our Party. We have what it takes to turn this around, together.
