Student debt repayments must be suspended as households contend with the economic crisis accompanying the COVID-19 pandemic. Please message your state legislators and Governor Charlie Baker and demand that they voice support for federal legislation providing student debt relief, as well as take steps to provide any and all appropriate relief at the state level.

We also urge you to sign this petition by the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts demanding that the U.S. Congress cancel all federal student loan debt.

This crisis has underscored the urgent need to address economic inequality in Massachusetts. Shackling college graduates with a lifetime of student debt is an extraordinary hardship in normal times; demanding student debt repayment as the pandemic crisis unfolds very likely will permanently damage our communities and our Commonwealth.
