Campgrounds in the Ag Reserve: Refinements Still Needed to ZTA 24-02

At this week's council committee meeting about ZTA 24-02 - a proposal to allow campgrounds in the Ag Reserve as a conditional use - the committee did not take up many of the concerns expressed by farmers and residents.

Particularly absent - any discussion about the impacts of having between 5-10 portable gas generators running to support the campground structures.

The "removeable structures" and RVs will need power to run lights and HVAC systems. Often in campgrounds this power comes from generators - known to be heavy emitters of both noise and emissions.

The County banned gas powered blower use/sale. Research indicates that RV/portable generators emit roughly the same level of sound - Generators between 70-100 db. This ZTA permits both RVs and structures that could each operate generators without restriction other than being 100 from a property line. A maximum of 10 units potentially simultaneously operating generators? Legislators should account for these scenarios in determining how compatible the change in land use will be with rural communities.

The Council votes on this ZTA Tuesday the 30th- please take two minutes to write them on this topic. And thank you!
