Why should you support bill A.959/S.431?

Make New York safer by preventing the outbreak of life-threatening diseases associated with Live Animal Markets. These markets are also a significant health risk for nearby residents as issues with disposal cause unsafe sanitary conditions and air quality. Animals are slaughtered on site with remains going directly into the sewer system.

Prohibiting Live Animal Markets will also prevent significant suffering of animals. The animals sold in these markets are transported, often from factory farms, for long distances in trucks and put into small, cramped, and dirty quarters at the markets. Some of these animals are not given food or water and are slaughtered in inhumane ways.
