Investigate Major Joshua Mast for Abducting an Afghan Baby
Joshua Mast is a Marine Corps Major,
presently employed by the Department of Defense, who used his position
of power to circumvent adoption, child welfare, immigration, and federal
employee norms and laws, to remove Baby Doe, an Afghan child, from her
loving and rightful Afghan family. Baby Doe became orphaned in a U.S.
military raid in 2019 (which itself could have constituted war crimes)
and arrived in the U.S. in 2021 with her parents, who had been
identified as her relatives through a lengthy process which included the
involvement of the International Red Cross.
Last month, a
Virginia court voided the Masts' adoption of Baby Doe, but she remains
in their custody. Instead of spending Ramadan and Eid in the care of her
parents and new baby sibling, living and growing up surrounded by her
faith, culture, and language, Baby Doe spent it with the Masts, who have
clearly articulated their motives to strip her of her faith and
culture.
Join us in calling for the investigation of Major Mast and his misuse of his position, and an investigation of those who enabled him.
