Demand a "Fair Share" State Budget
The news is grim about attempts at the State Capitol to craft a budget to fund vital public services for the next fiscal year. Revenues are well below earlier projections and both the governor and legislative leaders are talking about further austerity cuts and workforce layoffs — both of which threaten Connecticut's quality of life.
Their public remarks also fixate on expectations of additional labor cost savings from state employee union members — despite the billions already produced by previous agreements. At the same time, elected leaders have given short shrift to closing hedge fund tax loopholes or asking corporations to pay their fair share to fund vital services.
Tell your representative and senator to drop painful and failed austerity policies and instead support a "fair share" state budget. In the richest state in the nation, they shouldn't be taxing labor over wealth.
