Demand RUSD Meet with REU Welfare Committee on "Draft PL Plan"

The email regarding 21-22 Professional Learning dropped on Friday, June 4, once again, shows a lack of any kind of professional respect through meaningful collaboration with RUSD employees and is yet another top-down initiative that structurally cannot do anything but fail. It is completely disconnected to the everyday realities educators face in the classroom. It is incomprehensible that the serious work of transforming the culture of anti-racist practices and serving the needs of special education students has not been planned with any input from educators. In fact, it appears it has not been planned at all. All administration sent was a spreadsheet with more of the same bad ideas that already are not working.

By potentially missing crucial Professional Learning needs, it is possible that implementation of the 21-22 "Districtwide PL Plan" may result in poorer outcomes for students and increased difficulties in the district related to institutionalized discrimination against students. As such, the publication of the 21-22 "Districtwide PL Plan" in its current form is both irresponsible and unprofessional. Proper steps must be taken to consider appropriate review and design questions offered by a broad set of stakeholders such as those represented by the REU Welfare Committee.

Only through truly meaningful collaboration can the District develop a plan to meet its goals of creating equitable education for all students. Take a moment to send a letter demanding that the District meet and collaborate with the REU Welfare Committee on this issue.
