Fix Financial Aid- Email Your Legislator

A group of students wearing Fix Financial Aid Coalition shirts are shown. The Coalition logo includes an image of a pig. The students are holding a poster that says "Fix Financial Aid".

Education is a human right and is the cornerstone of progress for any society. We cannot stand idly by as our current financial aid and higher education systems disadvantage underserved students.

California needs a comprehensive financial aid system that reflects today’s cost of college. The FFA Coalition is working to promote the Cal Grant Equity Framework. Cal Grant provides thousands of students with financial support that they don't have to repay. However, this program has the capacity to reach even more students.

The Cal Grant Equity framework will :

  • Make college more financially attainable;

  • Simplify the application process;

  • Meet the needs of lower-income students, veterans, Dreamers, students of color, student-parents, returning students, and more;

  • Invest in California’s economy by establishing a robust workforce; and

  • Address the Governor’s 70% degree and certificate attainment.

Under the new legislative proposal AB 1746, Cal Grant awards would reach nearly 150,000 more people. In addition, it would be restructured to better meet students’ needs while maintaining existing levels of support for middle-class families.
