Demand Eid Holidays for Students at Hewlett-Woodmere School District

Muslim families and community supporters have advocated for the Hewlett-Woodmere School District to add two Eid Holidays to the school calendar so that Muslim students do not have to choose between attending school or celebrating their religious holidays with family and friends. Despite years of advocacy, the Board of Education has refused to add the Eid Holidays.

In January 2023, the Board of Education will once again consider and adopt a school calendar for 2023-2024 school year. The School District needs to recognize the Eid Holidays. Other school districts in Long Island already recognize the Eid Holidays, and it is time that Hewlett-Woodmere does too.

The Board needs to hear that you care about this issue and that you support adding the Eid Holidays to the calendar. Advocating for an inclusive school calendar that respects the religious practices of students is paramount. To support the inclusion of the Eid Holidays, please join this effort.

Complete the form and send a prepared email to the Board of Education requesting that they add the Eid Holidays to the school calendar. Additionally, please attend and provide testimony at the January Board Meeting to support the inclusion of Eid Holidays.

Thank you,

District 14 Eid Collective
